Tranmere Rovers Former Players

Heritage, Legacy and Former-Player Communities

In 2016, Majid and his team were involved with the creation and development of a former-player initiative associated with Tranmere Rovers.

The project was connected to the legacy of the club's legendary former manager John King.

Why Former-Player Organisations Matter

Former players are among the most direct links between a football club and its own history.

They carry the memories that supporters grew up with, and they remain recognisable figures within their communities long after their playing careers end.

Organising that group well gives a club a genuine heritage asset rather than an occasional matchday appearance.

Why It Matters Today

Heritage projects require care.

They involve former players, supporters, families, the club itself and often a charitable dimension.

The experience contributed to the wider former-player and heritage work Majid and The Football Group went on to undertake, including with the Manchester City Former Players Association.
